- CISTERCIAN MARKET IN JEMIELNICA
CISTERCIAN MARKET IN JEMIELNICA
This medieval-themed festival is inspired by the history of the Cistercians, who arrived in Jemielnica from Rudy near Racibórz at the end of the 13th
century. The packed programme of the event, which took place for the tenth time in 2022, is brimming with attractions, such as workshops on writing with a quill pen, paper-making, pottery, demonstrations of historical crafts, presentations of historical dances, medieval fashion shows, horse rides, and concerts. Historical tours of Jemielnica are organised, during which you can visit locations associated with the monks that are otherwise inaccessible. Themed exhibitions are held in the granary, including "The Twilight of Monasteries", old liturgical
vestments, and exhibitions of artworks related to the Cistercians. There is also a wide
range of commercial offerings, with numerous stalls selling handicrafts ranging from wooden sculptures and ceramics to cold cuts and confectionery.
The Cistercian Market, nominated by the Jemielnica Municipal Office, received the main prize in the Competition for the Best Tourist Product of the Opole Voivodeship, the OROT Certificate 2015.
