UPPER CASTLE IN OPOLE

The medieval building did not survive to the present day. In the second half of the 17th century, it was demolished by the Jesuits, who retained only a single late 14th-century tower. In the second half of the 17th century, it was demolished by the Jesuits, who retained only a single late 14th-century tower.

In 1844, a fourth storey was added and topped with neo-Gothic battlements. At the end of the 19th century, it was expanded to include a secondary school, and in the 1930s, another wing was added. The resulting building is now a school complex.

The historic tower and its underground are open to the public. The exhibition spans three floors. The basement is devoted to Opole's fortifications, the first floor is dedicated to the history of the Upper Castle, and the second floor contains documents and engravings relating to the castle.

The castle's dungeon is also open to the public.

In 2022, the Upper Castle in Opole received an award in the Competition for the Best Tourist Product of the Opolskie Voivodeship – OROT Certificate 2022.
