PIAST TOWER IN OPOLE

The symbol of Opole, one of the oldest monuments of defensive architecture in Poland, and the only remaining trace of the non-existent 13th-century Piast Castle, built in 1217. on the site of an early medieval castle, and demolished in 1928. The tower was built around 1300 on the Oder's Pasieka Island, as an extremely modern and monumental structure. Standing at 42 metres tall and with walls up to 3 metres thick at its base, it still makes an impressive sight. It originally served residential and defensive functions, and was also an excellent observation point. Thanks to a major renovation carried out in 2013–2014, visitors can admire not only the restored medieval tower, but also an exhibition on the history of Opole, the Piast Castle and the Piast Tower.

Notably, in 2014, the Piast Tower received an award in the Competition for the Best Tourist Product of the Opole Voivodeship – OROT Certificate 2014.
