EVANGELICAL CHURCH OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST IN OZIMEK

The Evangelical Church of St. John the Baptist was built in Ozimek during a time of rapid development of the local Lutheran parish and the nearby Royal Malapane Ironworks. The cornerstone for the temple was laid in 1819, and its construction was completed in April 1821. The concept and architectural design of the church was created by Karl Friedrich Schinkel himself, a well-known German architect and urban planner and designer of such structures as the Altes Museum building in Berlin and the Altstädtische Hauptwache in Dresden. Schinkel's well-known architectural style,

"Rundbogelstil", is characteristic and recurrent in his works. The entire structure of the church in Ozimek is based on Schinkel's concept of the so-called "Normalkirche". In the 1840s, it was decided to add a tower that closely resembled K. F. Schinkel's style. The original interior design of the church was also created by the famous architect. These included elements made entirely in the local Royal Malapane Ironworks, such as the gallery. Unfortunately, in 1988, the interior of the temple was destroyed by fire. Only the choir railings and window frames have survived to this day. Renovation and restoration work is currently underway in the church, which remains one of the temples of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession.
