SANCTUARY OF ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE IN MAŁUJOWICE
Located on the Way of St. James "Via Regia" and the Brzeg Polychrome Trail, the sanctuary, known as the "Silesian Sistine Chapel", is famous for its original Gothic frescoes covering 900 m² of the temple. The painted vault and walls of the church give its interior an amazing character and resemble open pages of the Bible. The building was erected in the 13th century; it was later rebuilt and expanded in the 14th and 15th centuries. Apart from the polychrome decoration, other noteworthy features inside include the ceiling composed of over 600 boards with colourful floral, animal and heraldic ornaments from 1500, and a richly carved Gothic portal with a tympanum depicting the coronation of the Virgin Mary, the Visitation of St. Elizabeth and the Adoration of the Magi.
