POKRZYWNA
Pokrzywna is a tourist destination located in the municipality of Głuchołazy, at the foot of the Opawskie Mountains and the highest mountain in the Opole Province, Biskupia Kopa (893 metres above sea level). Thanks to its location in the Opawskie Mountains Landscape Park, it is frequented by many tourists, much like the nearby Jarnołtówek. The history of the village dates back to the Middle Ages. The border between the estates of the bishops of Wrocław and the lands of nearby Prudnik ran through this area. An important trade route ran near Pokrzywna and Jarnołtówek, connecting Wrocław with Olomouc in Moravia. Like Jarnołtówek, the village was often hit by floods. In the 1930s, the authorities of the Prudnik County decided to build a flood control reservoir with recreational functions. This gave impetus to the development of tourist facilities in Pokrzywna.
Today, Pokrzywna is one of the few and most frequently visited mountainside holiday resorts in the Opolskie Voivodeship. There are many holiday resorts there, along with catering facilities. Places like the "Dębowe Wzgórze" Hotel and Restaurant, part of the "Opolski Bifyj" Culinary Trail, are well-worth a visit.
