JARNOŁTÓWEK

Jarnołtówek is a small village located at the foot of the Opawskie Mountains, in the south of the Opolskie Voivodeship, in the municipality of Głuchołazy. The first mention of the village dates back to 1268. Over the centuries, the village was known for gold mining and witch trials. Due to its geographical location on the mountainous Złoty Potok stream, the village was often hit by floods. The largest of these struck the town in July 1903, destroying one of Jarnołtówek's most interesting monuments – St. Bartholomew's Church. Shortly after the great flood, the then German Empress Augusta Victoria visited the site and funded the flood barrier, which was officially opened in 1909 and still stands today. Today, Jarnołtówek is one of the few mountainside resorts in the Opole region with exceptionally beautiful scenery. The low hills of the Opawskie Mountains are ideal for hiking, and the Opawskie Mountains Landscape Park, full of tourist trails, attracts numerous tourists seeking relaxation among nature. Thanks to the extensive accommodation and catering facilities and the interesting surroundings of the Polish-Czech border area, it is an excellent base for trips around

this part of the region, and not only during summer.
