OZIMEK
Ozimek is a small town situated on the Mała Panew River. It was precisely from the name of the river that the town took its original name Małpądew, and later Małpanew (hence the German name Malapane). The word Ozimek was the surname of the owner of the mill, and it was only with time that the name began to be used to refer to the industrial settlement that was becoming densely populated and which was established next to the Ironworks launched in 1763 at the behest of the Prussian ruler Frederick II.
The town's greatest treasure is its cast-iron suspension bridge which is the oldest structure of its kind on the European continent. Its creation is closely related to the "Małapanew" ironworks. In the 18th century, cast-iron bridges were among the most important products manufactured in this ironworks. One of the most beautiful of them can be seen to this day at the entrance to the ironworks. The suspension bridge in Ozimek, put into use in 1827, is the city's most important monument and its best showcase. In 1969, it was added to the list of industrial monuments.
Other worth visiting sites in the town include, among others: the Museum of Metallurgy of the Mała Panew Valley located at ul. Hutnicza, right next to the suspension bridge, and the Evangelical church of the Augsburg Confession, the building of which was completed in the 1820s. To this day it remains one of the most important buildings in the town and an interesting example of Late Classicistic architecture, as well as a place that reminds us of the former employees of the ironworks.
Ozimek is an excellent outing spot for hiking and cycling trips. The area has no shortage of places favourable to active tourism. The nearby Turawskie Lakes offer opportunities for relaxing in nature, while the Mała Panew River is perfect for canoeing in a remarkable setting. In the area there are numerous horse stables, agrotourism spots, and the famous JuraPark Dinosaur Park in Krasiejów.
