OTMUCHÓW
The town of Otmuchów is located in the southwestern part of the Opole Voivodeship. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages. It was established by an old historical trade route, on the left bank of the Nysa Kłodzka River. It is one of the most
attractive in terms of tourist, recreational, and natural assets towns of the Opolian Silesia. The Otmuchów Castle towering above the town, the old residence of the bishops of Wrocław, with its famous "horse stairs", is the hallmark of Otmuchów. The atmospheric townhouses within the Old Town,
the 16th-century town hall, the "Sparrow Tower" (Wieża Wróbla) - the town's coat of arms - and the remains of the town fortification allow us to move back in time to when Otmuchów was the stage of the struggle for influence between the Silesian princes and the bishops. A remarkable monument in the city is the Baroque Church of St. Nicholas and St. Francis Xavier, with its interior decorated with frescoes and paintings by Michael Willmann known as the "Silesian Rembrandt".
Alongside the numerous monuments, the town offers recreational areas that serve both its residents and the tourists: the "Solarium" park with models of dinosaurs, the "Plac Partnerstwa" ("Partnership Square") with a "Mino Zoo", and the Market Square area itself, revitalised in 2019.
Nature lovers will also find something for themselves here - because Otmuchów is located
within the Otmuchów-Nysa Protected Landscape Area, and the Otmuchów Lake itself is a Natura 2000 site. For enthusiasts of active recreation, the "Orlik" sports field and the "Delfinek" indoor swimming pool with sauna and jacuzzi facilities are also available.
Otmuchów is also known for the "Summer of Flowers" festival held here
every year. The event, which takes place in the first days of July, attracts to Otmuchów crowds of tourists from the country and from abroad. A huge attraction for tourists
are the exhibitions of cut flowers and the accompanying exhibitions which provide opportunity to admire the work of folk creators, artists, painters, sculptors, and photographers. For the "Summer of Flowers" event, the Otmuchów municipality received the main prize in the Competition for the Best Tourism Product - OROT Certificate in the event category in 2012 and 2016.
