LEWIN BRZESKI

Lewin Brzeski is a former trading settlement located near the Nysa Kłodzka River crossing on the trade route connecting Silesia with Hungary. The trade route along which the town was founded is considered a branch of the Hungarian Amber Road. The town was founded around 1250.

Today, Lewin Brzeski boasts various historical monuments. Some are open to the public, while others are privately owned. The recently renovated Palace of 1772 now houses a school. Among the town's churches, there are two: a 14th-century Evangelical church, currently closed, and the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in the neo-Gothic style in 1903. The town's urban layout, with its medieval street layout and the town hall, of which the current appearance dates from 1837, have been added to the register of historical monuments. A visit to the market square in winter is a must. Not only because of its well-maintained buildings, but also because of the Christmas atmosphere and music flowing from the loudspeakers near the Cultural Center. The town has long been associated with music, or more precisely, Christmas carols. The "Herody" Provincial Festival of Caroling Groups

has been held here for decades.

Any time of year, it's worth taking a walk around Wodniaków Hill or along the Nysa Kłodzka River. Near the cemetery, a penitential cross of 1617 stands. The inscription on the cross, translated into English, reads: "On April 15, 1617, George Friedrich Brandtner, a young man of twenty-and-a-half, was stabbed to death here without cause by the murderer Georg... of Saxony." The murderer's name is missing. There are speculations that the name was cut off or erased by the perpetrator or someone else. The motive for the crime remains unexplained.

Additionally, Lewin Brzeski has a reservoir with a municipal beach, next to which a beach volleyball court, a playground and a skate park are located. And for those who value peace and quiet, just outside the town are two gravel pits, popular mainly with anglers.
