BYCZYNA
It is believed that this town is as old as the Polish state itself, with an extremely interesting history dating back to the early Middle Ages. The town has made a significant
mark on history, among other things as the site of a Polish military triumph. If it had not been for Jan Zamoyski's victory at Byczyna in 1588, the Polish throne would have fallen into the hands of the Habsburgs and there would have been no Vasa dynasty, Swedish Deluge, or Battle of Vienna. Today, Byczyna is primarily known for its numerous monumentshttps://byczyna.pl/2103/4289/zabytki-miasta-byczyna.html, which give the town its unique charm. The preserved defensive walls are among the oldest medieval city fortifications in Poland, as is the preserved internal street layout. Must-see attractions include: the Gothic Evangelical Church of St. Nicholas from the 14th century, the town hall built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, and the Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity from 1767.
An interesting fact is that in the 19th century, Byczyna was considered the happiest town in the world, as no one had died there for several decades!
Unfortunately, luck left the town with the arrival of the Red Army in 1945, which caused enormous destruction.
