PRUDNIK
Located at the foot of the Opawskie Mountains, Prudnik is a town of weavers, featuring a picturesque market square, remains of medieval defensive structures, and the Monastery of the Friars Minor, where Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński was interned. Prudnik dates back to the XIII century, when a defensive castle was built here. Today, only the Wok’s Tower has survived, now serving as a viewing point. Nearby, there is the market square with an XVIII-century town hall and a Baroque fountain. Also worth seeing are the church dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel the mid-18th century and the Bonifraters monastery complex. Places connected with weaving traditions are also worth visiting, including Fränkl’s Villa and the Weaving Traditions Centre. The XIX-century municipal park and the forests surrounding Prudnik provide excellent conditions for active recreation. It is worth mentioning that the city has a modern School Youth Hostel of high standards, which also houses a 4-star tourist information center.
Prudnik is a member of the international Cittaslow network of towns promoting a slow
and high-quality way of life. Cities belonging to this network promote a slower pace of life while preserving local customs and traditions, and they take pride in their local cuisine and heritage sites
their symbol is the orange Roman snail. The Cittaslow network includes towns and small cities from all over the world whose population, as a rule, does not exceed 50,000 inhabitants. Cities from individual countries form national networks, but the authorities of all member towns stay in contact, exchange ideas, and support one another whenever needed.
