KAMIEN ŚLĄSKI PALACE
This late-Baroque palace was erected at the turn of the 18th century on the site of a medieval castle belonging to the Odrowąż family, a lineage famous across Europe, from which St Hyacinth, born here in Kamień Śląski, descended. The residence survived the Second World War virtually intact, though the subsequent years were less kind. In 1990, the ruins were taken over by the Diocese of Opole which, after reconstruction, established the Sanctuary of St Hyacinth – the Centre for Culture and Science of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Opole. It attracts pilgrims from both Poland and abroad.
Nearby, in the modernised former grange buildings, lies the Sebastianeum Silesiacum rehabilitation and retreat centre. The entire complex is surrounded by a charming 14-hectare park.
