NIEMODLIN PRINCELY CASTLE

Over 700 years of history are encapsulated within one of the mightiest castles in Poland. The fortress was erected by Prince Bolesław in 1313 on the site of a 13th-century castellany. Repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, it ultimately took the form of a Renaissance residence, which was later renovated in the 18th century in the Baroque style. Until the end of the Second World War, it was the seat of the Praschma family. After 1945, its fortunes varied greatly. Today, the castle is undergoing extensive renovation to make it fully accessible for tourism. The castle walls, underground tunnels, and hidden dungeons have inspired legends for centuries, passed down from generation to generation by local residents Visitors may well encounter the subjects of these tales while wandering the castle chambers. Interestingly, the Princely Castle in Niemodlin served as the film set for Jan Jakub Kolski’s acclaimed movie Jasminum.
