SUSPENSION BRIDGE IN OZIMEK
The bridge was constructed in 1827 by the Malapane Ironworks which operated here, to a design by royal steelwork inspector Karl Schottelius. Over 57 tons of cast iron and over 14 tons of steel were used for the building of this 31,5-metres long and 6,6-metres wide chain bridge. During a carrying capacity test, for which a herd of cattle was used, it was found that the bridge withstood 5 times the expected load. Between 2009 and 2010 it underwent thorough modernisation, and today is one of the attractions of Ozimek, as well as a Polish Historic Monument. It looks especially spectacular at dusk, when a specially designed illumination is turned on. Under the bridge flows the Mała Panew River offering perfect conditions for canoeing - which is, of course, dependent on weather conditions. Just beyond the bridge there is the Ozimek Museum of Metallurgy - it is worth visiting it and learning about the oldest, continuously operating smelter in Poland.
