GALLERY OF THE MUSEUM OF OPOLE SILESIA IN OPOLE

The Museum of Opole Silesia in Opole has the largest collection in Poland of works by Jan Cybis, a painter born in the village of Wróblin near Głogówek in the Opole region in 1897, who died in Warsaw in 1972. The collection began to develop after the artist's death, through purchases from the painter's immediate family. It currently comprises 90 oil paintings, 846 works on paper and Cybis's personal belongings, as well – textbooks, school supplies, home furnishings and objects used for still lifes. In 1994, the Museum of Opole Silesia took over the former inn, later home of the BWA, at the intersection of Ozimska and Kołłątaja Streets. On 20 January 2000, after several years of renovation, the Opole Silesia Museum Gallery opened within its interiors, hosting a permanent exhibition of

Jan Cybis's works. The first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions presenting painters from Jan Cybis's circle and recipients of the Jan Cybis Award. Currently, the permanent painting exhibition on the ground floor features nearly 40 paintings. This selection is from the Opole collection. The oldest paintings on display were created in France in the 1920s, while the newest were created just before the painter's death in 1972.
