NIEMODLIN FORESTS

The largest forest complex on the left bank of the upper Oder River. It covers an area of 480 km² of valuable mixed and deciduous forests. Located in the triangle of three rivers: the Oder, Nysa Kłodzka and Biała with Osobłoga, the area is also distinguished by a rich network of ponds, particularly in the part encompassing the Niemodlin and Tułowice municipalities, with the largest pond in the Opole region, Sangów. Niemodlin carp, included on the List of Traditional Products, is bred in these ponds. The forests are protected as a Protected Landscape Area. In addition, numerous plant and animal species are also protected here and some habitats are included in Natura 2000.

Within the municipalities connected by the Niemodlin Forests, numerous manors, palaces and castles have been preserved, their gardens often directly connected to the adjacent forest. They are a testament to the rich history associated with the noble families of Strachwitz, Prószkowski, Donat, Frankenberg, Praschma, Puckler, Thiele-Winkler and Hochberg.

Today, nature education in the Niemodlin Forest is provided by, among others, the Tułowice Forest District, which manages the oldest dendrological garden in Poland – in Lipno, Niemodlin district. Forest education centers can also be visited at the Opole and Prószków Forest Districts. Nature reserves, such as Nowa Kuźnia with its water caltrop and Złote Bagna or Prądy with their protected peat bogs, are accessible without appointment.
