CITY TRAIL IN GŁUCHOŁAZY
Route length – 6.5 km, walking time – approx. 3 hours. Marked with white and blue rhombuses.
This is a walking trail that allows you to explore the most attractive spots in Głuchołazy. It begins in the Market Square, at one of the city's symbols – a historical linden tree. The tree was planted over 350 years ago to commemorate the signing of the Peace of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years' War. From the linden tree, the trail heads south onto
Wojciecha Korfantego Street. After about 100 meters, the street opens onto the small Basztowy Square, where the Upper Gate Tower stands, a remnant of the defensive walls that once encircled the city. From Basztowy Square, the trail passes an intersection and enters Bohaterów Warszawy Street. On the right, it passes the former Evangelical Church, now St. Francis Church, and the distinctive red brick building of the former teachers' seminary, which now houses the Bolesław Chrobry's High School. Behind the school building, at the intersection with Powstańców Śląskich Street, lies the small square of the Knights of
the Smile Order. From the intersection, the trail continues along John Paul II Avenue, heading towards the city's former spa district. At the end of John Paul II Avenue, the trail passes the "Sudety" hotel on the left, standing on the site of Głuchołazy's first sanatorium,
"Juppenbad". Just beyond, a square with a fountain featuring Cupid opens, along with
the "Amorek" café, which is a junction of hiking trails. At the café, the trail turns left onto a walking path below Parkowa Street. The path leads to the spa park in the Zdrojnik Valley, then turns left onto steps leading to Parkowa Street. Here, it turns right, passing 19th-century villas and sanatorium houses, leading to "Górny Staw". The trail then circles the pond along the access road to the "Zacisze II" resort. Behind the center, the trail turns right, returning after about 200 m to the Spa Park, which leads to the square with the Cupid fountain and a junction of hiking trails.
From the square, the trail heads left along the Rev. Ludwik Skowronek promenade, passing a historical suspended footbridge, the "Chrobry" spring and then rock outcrops with the remains of a medieval mining drift. Next to the mining drift is the "Żegnalce" spring, beyond which the trail emerges onto Gen. Władysława Andersa Street. Further left, the street leads between the "Czerwony Kozioł" and
"Skowronek" centers, reaching the drinking water intake for Głuchołazy. At the entrance gate to the water intake, the trail turns sharply left, entering the forest. The remainder of this section of the trail runs through the "Nad Białką" geological and natural reserve, where the best-preserved relics of medieval gold mining can be found. Following the forest path, the trail reemerges onto Andersa Street and crosses a bridge over the Biała Głuchołaska River. Behind the bridge, the trail turns left and runs parallel to the river. After reaching the border, it crosses the railway tracks and climbs towards the city to "Czarcia Ambona," which offers a panoramic view of the Biała Głuchołaska Valley and the Góra Parkowa massif. From "Czarcia Ambona," the trail emerges from the forest onto Bolesława Prusa Street, then along Juliana Tuwima Street to reach the viewing gazebo on Szubieniczna Góra, known to locals as "Grzybek" (Mushroom). From the gazebo, the trail continues downhill, reaching Stanisława Wyspiańskiego Street and the buildings of the Głuchołazy paper Mill. The trail then reaches Gen. Andersa Street, where it turns left, running parallel to the Biała River. After reaching the intersection, the trail crosses Andrzeja Bridge and turns left behind it onto Opolska Street. It then crosses Solidarności Square, entering
Ligonia Street, which leads to Tadeusza Kościuszki Street, where it turns slightly left. After approximately 40 meters, the trail reaches the intersection with Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie Street, which it crosses, passing the Church of St. Roch along the way. The trail then continues
along M. Skłodowskiej-Curie Street, passing fragments of the defensive walls. Beyond the defensive walls, the trail reaches the primary school building, before which it turns right, passing through the gate of the former mayor's office. The trail then turns left, heading for the Parish Church of St. Florence. From the church to the Market Square, the trail follows Kościelna Street. The trail ends in the Market Square.
