MILLENNIUM AMPHITHEATRE - NATIONAL CENTER OF POLISH SONG
The legendary Opole Millennium Amphitheater was built at the initiative of Karol Musioł on the site of the oldest Slavic settlement in Opole. The grand opening took place on 19 June 1963 - the first day of the first festival, proposed to Pope Musioł by music journalists Mateusz Święcicki and Jerzy Grygolunas. Since then, the amphitheater has hosted the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole every year - one of the oldest European festivals and the most famous pop music event in Poland. The exception was 1982, when the festival was canceled due to the imposition of martial law in Poland. In 2010, due to the modernization of the facility, the event was held on the grounds of the Opole University of Technology. In the spring of 2011, the completely rebuilt amphitheater opened.
Comfortable conditions were created for both audiences and artists, with no architectural barriers. The architectural barriers disappeared. The amphitheater's auditorium now seats 3,655.
In addition, thanks to the new observation deck, it's now possible to admire not only the action on stage but also the picturesque surroundings. The Opole Amphitheater is one of the city's most iconic symbols. It houses two important cultural institutions – the Polish Song Museum and the National Centre of Polish Song, which manages Opole's musical heritage. Concerts are held here year-round, regardless of the weather, with music of almost every genre resonating from several stages. The Chamber Hall, equipped with modern equipment and seating for 500 people, hosts dozens of concerts by leading Polish bands and performers throughout the year. This means that during the autumn, winter and spring seasons, the National Centre of Polish Song transforms into one of the most important concert venues in Poland.
The NCPP also implements other projects, including meetings, workshops, reviews and film screenings (in cooperation with the Opole Lamy Association). It also serves as a platform for cooperation between various organizations, associations and groups active in the cultural sphere.
Every year, in October, it organizes a meeting of mountain people – the Opole Mountain Festival. The 10th anniversary edition of the festival will take place in 2023.
The Center also organizes a Musical Cultural Guide (mic.ncpp.opole.pl), which presents articles, podcasts and interviews.
In 2011, the National Centre of Polish Song received an award in the competition for the Best Tourist Product of the Opole Voivodeship – the OROT 2011 Certificate in the "Facility" category.
