DANIEC
The first mention of Daniec dates back to 1297, when on September 16 Bishop Jan III of Wrocław established the Raszowa parish and attached several villages to it, including "Mokrodaniecz". The village was called Mokry Daniec ("Wet Daniec") from the times of Frederick the Great to distinguish it from Suchy Daniec ("Dry Daniec") in the Strzelce district.
Local peasants often came across prehistoric traces in their fields. These valuable
finds can be viewed at the Konrad Mientus Regional Silesian Chamber, named after the late enthusiast and historian of the Daniec region, who was well known throughout the voivodeship.
For centuries, two water mills operated in Daniec. The mill on the Sucha River no longer exists. The second mill – Mende's mill, also known as the German Mill (Deutschmülle) – was powered by the Jemielnica River. It had two German and two American gears and was one of the largest in Silesia. In 1881, it was owned by Josef Augustyn. A sawmill and paper mill operated alongside the mill. To this day, the mill stands by the road leading to Ozimek.
The first school in Daniec, built in 1784, was wooden and roofed with shingles. About a hundred years later, a new school was built, which served until 1913. The third school and teacher's house were built in 1913 for 20,000 marks. During the war, the school, the teacher's house and the nursery school were burned down. The school was rebuilt in 1949.
It currently operates as a public primary school and houses a nursery school. In 2022, a multifunctional sports field was officially opened next to it. Years ago, Daniec was famous for the Fill family orchestra, mementos of which can be seen in the Daniec Museum Chamber.
In 1982, thanks to the parishioners and Father Hubert Szdzuy, the Church of St. Joseph was built in Daniec.
The first Holy Mass was celebrated on 1 November 1982 by Bishop Wieczorek. Together with Raszowa, Daniec forms one parish.
The village is home to organizations such as the Volunteer Fire Brigade and the DFK (German Friendship Circles / Deutsche Freundschaftskreise) association, which, in collaboration with the Village Council, organise numerous events, festivals, and special gatherings, including regional traditions like the harvest festival and the "Wodzenie niedźwiedzia" (Leading the Bear), contributing to the preservation of local heritage.
The residents are modernising and equipping the village club, which is a place for meetings and socialising during events organised there.
In Daniec, visitors can admire numerous roadside crosses and shrines, including a Cossack shrine, a bell tower chapel, and a monument dedicated to the victims of world wars. Recreational areas include the square by Dębskiej Kuźni Street, the playground by the school, as well as the small park on Jeziorowa Street, featuring a bonfire site and sheltered benches and tables.
