"DISCOVER HISTORY" ROUTE IN OPOLE

The "Discover History" route in Opole is an interesting example of how a tour of monuments can be combined with modern technology, making a walk through the city never boring. It often happens that you pass by a monument and would like to learn more about it, but there is no information available. In Opole, thanks to a special app, some monuments "speak". All you have to do is scan the QR code next to the monument, and the figure from the monument will "call" you and tell you their story. Initially, visitors could listen to the stories of five monuments: Prince Casimir I, Ceres from the fountain in Daszyńskiego Square, Karol Musioł, Agnieszka Osiecka, Wojciech Młynarski, and Kabaret Starszych Panów. Currently, the offer has been extended to other sites worth seeing: the monument to the Polishness of Opole Silesia, the monument to the defence of Opole, Juno, the Lady of Pasieczna, St Adalbert's well, and the unusual doors in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Opole is the first city in Poland to use an app that "brings monuments to life". This highly innovative idea is well worth recommending. In addition to telling the story of a given monument, the app shows the location of another nearby

monument included in the "Discover History" project. You can also download a map with monuments and videos using the app.

In addition, along Krakowska Street, QR codes can be found on benches. Scanning them will allow you to watch short videos created during "Cafes with the Stars". This is a beloved event accompanying the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. The Opole Market Square is filled with fans who can listen to engaging interviews with festival stars and watch archival recordings.
