SHOE TRAIL IN KRAPKOWICE

Krapkowice is a town with a long history and rich traditions, and an excellent destination for a trip where you can see many interesting attractions. One of these is the Shoe Trail, approximately 6 km long. This is because Krapkowice has been renowned for its footwear industry for many centuries. In the 1930s, Deutsche Schuh, a company owned by industrial magnate Tomasz Bata, purchased the Otmęt estate and moved its headquarters from Berlin to Otmęt. "Bata" was the most modern shoe manufacturing plant in the whole of Germany at that time. After the war, the Silesian Leather Industry Plant

"Otmęt" continued to produce high-quality footwear for the domestic and foreign markets and remained a leader in the footwear industry for a long time. Unfortunately, with the economic collapse of the 1980s and the political transformation of the 1990s, the Silesian Leather Industry Plant "Otmęt" lost its strong position. In 1999, the company declared bankruptcy, and today three companies continue the city's shoemaking traditions on its former premises, including Nagaba, which manufactures footwear for the Polish ski jumping team.

To this day, the shoe from Otmęt is almost synonymous with high-quality craftsmanship and an excellent reputation among customers. Moreover, the shape of the shoe fits perfectly with the city’s promotional slogan: "Krapkowice, at the crossroads of Europe’s trails".

Following the trail of mysterious bronze shoes named Laciek, Mieszczuch, Kopytko, Pepoż, Rogatek, Rolszpila, Tempel, Wyczynówka, and scanning QR codes, you can listen to numerous fascinating stories and legends about Meluzyna, Hanna, the fisherman's daughter, and many others, transporting yourself to the world of Krapkowice from centuries past.
