BOLKO QUARRY LAKE IN OPOLE
Bolko Quarry Lake in Opole is a reservoir created by a flood wave on the Oder River in 1997, which flooded a disused cement plant excavation site that
housed a marl mine. The lake is located less than three kilometres south of the city centre and is well connected to it – you can get there by footpath, cycling path, car or public transport. The bottom of the reservoir, with crystal-clear water, is full of tree trunks covered in algae, as well as machines used to extract marl deposits, such as an excavator, which divers will undoubtedly enjoy.
Following the revitalisation of the area, a municipal bathing area was created here with a wide beach with straw umbrellas, a volleyball court, a long pier, a playground, an outdoor gym, barbecue areas, benches, toilets, changing rooms and a complex for lifeguards who watch over the safety of beachgoers during the summer season.
Before descending the path leading to the beach, it is worth stopping at the viewing platform, which offers a magnificent vista of the entire complex.
The bathing area has food stalls, and you can hire kayaks or pedal boats. Sailing day camps are also organised.
The lake attracts numerous residents and tourists both in summer and winter – it is one of the favourite places for winter swimming.
During the summer, various events are held here, among others, Safely on the Water or Summer Beach Party, while in winter, the Walrus Run.
There are several areas excluded from fishing and swimming due to bird nesting islands and beaver habitats.
