PIAST QUARRY LAKE IN OPOLE
Piast Quarry Lake in Opole is an attractive location in the city centre with walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, a gym, a dog park, a year-round artificial turf pitch, and a diving centre. It is a beautiful and highly functional site for entire families, with an interestingly arranged space.
Particularly impressive is the floating pier with a beautiful panorama of the entire reservoir, built especially for divers, as the lake is one of the best and most recognisable diving spots in the region. Notably, this is a protected area, inaccessible for swimming, and only accessible to divers, who can go down to depths of up to 15 metres here. The lake is better suited to experienced divers or those diving with a good guide.
This marl quarry is home to fish species, including roach, rudd,
perch, tench, pike, eel, brown bullhead, ruffe, catfish, Prussian carp, ide and chub. The bottom is covered with vegetation, predominantly Chara and pondweed.
There are also many platforms sunk at various depths underwater. Among other things, you can find a mannequin, the wreck of a Fiat 126P, the ruins of a sunken cottage, scaffolding with a mirror, and marl walls, which are a real treat for underwater photographers.
During intensive revitalisation works on this several-hectare site in the heart of the city, which were completed at the end of 2021, the remains of a now defunct cement factory were removed, although the characteristic pillars were preserved. A car park for 54 cars was also built next to them.
