KAYAKING TRIPS ON THE MAŁA PANEW RIVER
The Mała Panew is one of the most picturesque rivers in the Opolskie Voivodship. Called the Amazon of Opole (as it is one of the few in Poland to have retained its virtually untouched, natural character), it is one of the greatest tourist
attractions in the Opolskie Voivodship.
The Mała Panew is both a fairytale landscape and diverse fauna and flora. A rare species of aquatic plant,
- the hooked waterweed (an indicator of clean water), occurs in several places along the river's current, while the forests and thickets along its banks are home to species such as winter horsetail, columbine meadow-rue, bouquet loosestrife, Kashubian vetch and the protected common fern.
The animal world is equally rich: the loach, otter and beaver are just some of the animals that inhabit the Mała Panew.
Over a hundred meanders, sandbanks on both banks, oxbow lakes and beautiful landscapes make it a true paradise for kayakers.
Experienced kayakers claim that the Mała Panew has certain characteristics of a mountain river, a true rarity in the Opole Plain.
Kayak camps have been established on the river in the Kolonowskie, Ozimek and Zawadzkie communes, attracting kayaking enthusiasts not only from the Opole region but also from neighboring voivodships.
A good way to explore the beauty of the Mała Panew River is to take a kayaking trip along one of four routes:
Krupski Młyn – Zawadzkie: a difficult route, with many obstacles, requiring good physical fitness. Duration approximately 5-6 hours (16 km).
Zawadzkie – Kolonowskie: a very picturesque route, running entirely through forested areas, providing plenty of excitement. Duration approximately 4.5 – 5 hours (12 km).
Kolonowskie – Ozimek: an easy and pleasant route, but with many rapids that require portaging kayaks. The river is partially regulated. Duration approximately 4 hours (15 km).
Ozimek – Turawa: an easy route, but requiring some effort – expect wind, causing waves. Duration 3 – 6 hours (depending on wind strength) (12 km).
In 2019, the product submitted by the Kolonowskie Commune entitled "The Mała Panew Valley - Kayak to the Heart of Nature" received the Certificate for the Best Tourist Product of the Opolskie Voivodship.
Kayaking on the Mała Panew River has undoubtedly become a major attraction in the region. This is largely due to the efforts of those who strive every day to offer
something interesting for every tourist.
