MARKED CYCLING TRAILS IN THE GŁUCHOŁAZY DISTRICT

Section of the Polish-Czech Witches' Trail.

Total length – 233 km (95 km on the Polish side, 138 km on the Czech side) Marking – a black image of a witch on a bicycle

The Polish-Czech cycling "Witch Trail" offers a hike through the most interesting places on the border, which are associated with the "witch hunts" that took place in the 17th century. In the middle of the 17th century, the area around Nysa and Jesenik became the scene of one of the darkest episodes in the region's history. As a result of numerous slanders and accusations following trials preceded by torture, several hundred people accused of witchcraft and contact with the devil lost their lives.

The trail enters the Głuchołazy commune from Nysa to the Old Forest, where the ruins of a large fortified settlement are located. The trail then continues to Jarnołtówek, where the mysterious "Witch's Grave" is located on the pass below Zamkowa Góra. From Jarnołtówek, through Skowronków and Konradów, the trail enters Głuchołazy, which during the witch trials became famous for hanging witches and men suspected of contact with the devil, outside the town on a hill since then called "Gallows Hill". From Głuchołazy, the trail leads to the border crossing in Konradów, where it crosses into the Czech Republic.
