LARGE TURAWA LAKE

The Large Turawa Lake was constructed between 1933 and 1939. At that time, the inhabitants of the villages of Zamoście, Krzyślina with the hamlet of Łuk, and Pustków, a hamlet of Szczedrzyk, were displaced. The new lake was designed to protect nearby villages from flooding and to serve as a recreational and leisure space. Its area is as large as 24 km². It is an extremely popular holiday destination for residents of Opole and neighbouring regions. The lake is located in the heart of the

Stobrawa-Turawa Forest Protected Landscape Area, which was established in 1988. The area features mixed forest habitats dominated by pine trees. This area is considered one of the most valuable parts of Opole Silesia. Above all, it is also a paradise for ornithologists. The eastern bank, covered with rushes, is a refuge for waterfowl and marsh birds. In addition, the Large Turawa Lake is part of the Natura 2000 programme for the protection of birds. It is an ideal place for those who want to relax by the water. It is a great place for sunbathing, water sports (sailing, kite surfing) or fishing (the lake is regularly stocked with fish). There is a cycling trail a yellow hiking trail around the lake. There are numerous holiday resorts by the lake, you can rent cabins, and there is space for campers and tents. Tourist and catering facilities are mainly concentrated on the northern and southern shores of the reservoir. You can hire water sports equipment (kayaks, pedal boats) and take a sailing course.

The Turawa municipality is currently renovating the Promenade. An Open Activity Zone with an outdoor gym and a Relaxation Zone with chess tables, noughts-and-crosses boards, and a playground are to be built here.
