CYCLING TRAIL AROUND THE TURAWA LAKE
The cycling trail around the Turawa Lake is one of the most popular and beloved cycling routes. It runs across: Turawa (former palace of the von Garnier family) – Antoninek – Dylaki (over 100-year-old water sawmill with a mill, convent of the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus) – Jedlice (pumping station, remains of a metallurgical district and a steelworks from the 18th and 19th centuries, historic Beatka manor house from 1780) – Szczedrzyk (brick, neo-Romanesque church from the 19th century and a monument to those who died in World War I with St
George) – Small Lake – Middle Lake (modern infrastructure, rope park, playgrounds, pier, numerous small restaurants) – Kotórz Wielki (parish church of St Michael the Archangel from 1782) – Turawa. The total length of the trail is 25 km, travel time is about 2 hours.
The trail mainly runs along forest and gravel roads, and partly along asphalt roads with little traffic. It is an easy yet picturesque route along the shore of the Large Turawa Lake. The lake was created between 1933 and 1939. It was intended to protect the surrounding villages from flooding and serve as a recreational and leisure destination. Its area is as large as 24 km². The reservoir is a nesting place for many species of birds. There are at least 24 species of birds from Appendix I of the Birds Directive (a list of rare or endangered bird species), including the little bittern or the whiskered tern. It is undoubtedly a paradise for ornithologists.
