TOROPOL SKATING RINK IN OPOLE

The Toropol Skating Rink in Opole opened in 1961. It was only the third artificial skating rink in Poland. Shortly before, Torkat in Katowice and Torwar in Warsaw had been built. When the time to name the Opole rink, the prefix "tor" was added to the city's name and Toropol was founded. Initially, it was a simple sheet of ice surrounded by stands. Lack of a roof resulted in numerous problems and in the mid-1970s, expansion of the facility began. The faulty ice maintenance system was replaced, a roof was built and seats were added, accommodating 3,000 spectators. In 1997, a flood did not spare the facility, which was submerged. Subsequent renovations included replacement of outdated cooling equipment and compressors in the engine room, and, above all, introducing new technology for freezing the ice surface. Currently, the rink measures 30 m x 60 m and hosts training and competitions for ice hockey, figure skating and short-track ice skating. The facility also offers skate rentals.

Some of the more interesting events that have taken place at the rink include the Opole Speedway Gala on Ice, the Moscow Ice Revue, Winter Break in the City, Winter Break on Plus, the Polish Figure Skating Championships (2005) and the Polish Short-Track Championships (2017).

Outside the winter season, the facility hosts training sessions for the roller skating section and hosts table tennis matches. The ice rink is also available for rental for commercial events, clubs, associations and businesses.
